The Juran Generation: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow - 300 Years of Quality As President and successor to Dr Juran as CEO of Juran Institute, Mr DeFeo will relate the history of quality from the perspective of the Juran Generation. This will review the role of quality from the 1920's through 2000. Joe will review the almost 100 year legacy left by Dr Joseph Juran, the father of modern day quality. From his early years at Western Electric, to his short stint in the US Government, to his work with Japanese Executives after World War II, Dr Juran travelled the world, including Queensland in the 1970's, teaching about quality. From there Joe will discuss the present and future of quality. Joe will discuss where Quality is today and his vision of where Quality will be heading in the future. Dr. Juran referred to this century as the Century of Quality. Joe will explore, in discussion with us, his views on Lean, Six Sigma, and what may be next. Organisations worldwide have made progress in meeting customer needs by adopting methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, and other disciplines, but what will the next generation quality system look like? Despite significant results by many businesses that have integrated quality cultures within their structures, improved the designs of products and services, increased production efficiencies, reduced overall costs of poor quality, and grew competitively, we still are faced with major challenges. What will quality systems of the future look like? To survive, compete, and grow we must all continue to create a revolution in quality that is sustainable. |

Governance and Business Systems We argue that corporate governance is a meta-process, and that the myriad of business systems, and tools of analysis and improvement methods, should be linked back, and mapped to this higher-level of abstraction. Balanced scorecard, as an example of a business monitoring and improving framework, can be linked back to its management system and policy deployment. And that six sigma projects, help to operationalize best practice and aid in implementation of solutions through transparency and accountability. Our paper briefly takes an historical perspective of corporate governance and business system thinking, addresses some of the key issues of social responsibility and risk management, and explores future challenges. |

Theme: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow- 300 Years of Quality
On the eve of Queensland's 150 year anniversary of independence as a separate State/Colony from the shackles of the south we will look at how Quality has contributed to the growth of this great State that started with only a "couple of bob" in Treasury and has become a driving force in the National economy.
The intent of this conference is to examine the journey of Quality over the last 150 years and how Quality has developed over this time to where we are today, how we are applying current quality principles today, and learn from this to develop the tools and principles that will lead us into the next 150 years.
Papers, presentations and workshops are solicited from all industry sectors that have made Queensland great such as mining, manufacturing, farming, hospitality, health, aerospace, media, services, government, charities and not-for-profits.
